Feature: Child's Play Charity Funde Razor 2008

at The Pour House

The fourth, and best, New York Child's Play Funde Razor raised over $3000 this year. New venue, excellent crowd, and top-notch logistics. The Pour House in the East Village, its new home, is much better suited to the tournament task (we still love you, Barcade!).

I won't keep you long - the pictures are the interesting part - but I'd like to mention Dan's door-prize luck. There was a ton of stuff available for raffle. What staggered me was that the Denver location (Funde Razor's homeland) had even more for the door (SF's haul was pretty sweet as well). Signed versions Rock Band 2, glorious aftermarket controllers, and even some EVE Online and Warhammer Online stuff from left field. However, the most coveted prize in the whole package, if audience reaction was the judge, had to be the $500 worth of Legos, complete with the coveted 8-Bit Lego Megaman. That's Dan's now. Little Brother has all the luck.

Dan and I rocked the stage with two other free agents, John and Luka, as the band '8-Bit Jesus.' Our version of 'Spoonman' was enough to place us 6th out of 18... which is much better than my scant guitar skills and I would have hoped for.

While we rocked, we didn't rock as hard as 'Lords of the Gameworld' (pictured above) who took the top spot. At least I got to wear one of their hats after it was tossed into the crowd. Perhaps there was some mojo, Frosty-the-Snowman-style, which boosted 8-Bit Jesus to the level it achieved. Maybe I'm a little too proud of sixth place. And maybe I've gone on long enough.

Beyond the six shots on this page, there are links to other sections of the night. What I captured depended on where Dan and I were standing, so this coverage is far from exhaustive (we were there to play). $400 worth of Lego is more total than I've had to this point in my life. I don't have the time to enjoy it all, but naturally it isn't too hard to give away. I am keeping some though, and may even share my toys with my brother.
